Established by the Middle Western Province Board of Directors on February 1, 2002, the "Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award" is named for our Past and Last Province Keeper of Records & Exchequer and is available to members of the Middle Western Province for meritorious achievement and service to the fraternity. The award consists of a medallion bearing the image of Brother Morgan and a certificate of merit. Not more than five such awards may be conferred per year at a Province Council. Among the very strict eligibility requirements are that a nominee must have been a member of the fraternity for at least 25 years, and that his achievement must be fraternity-related. Brother Charles Wesley Morgan, III of the Wichita Alumni Chapter was selected as the FIRST recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 80th Middle Western Province Council on April 20, 2002. Brother Morgan was initiated at the Fisk University Chapter, the Alpha Delta of Kappa Alpha Psi, on November 29, 1969. He has been active with the Middle Western Province since he returned to our province in September 1975. Brother Morgan has attended every C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference since 1977 and attended all but two of the meetings of the Province Board of Directors from 1983 to 2009, including every such meeting as a voting member. He was elected to three terms as Chapter Polemarch, six terms as Chapter Keeper of Records, and nine terms as Chapter Keeper of Exchequer of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter. He served the Province as its Keeper of Records & Exchequer from 1992 until 2009, and the Province Audit Committee confirms that his records were never in error. Brother Morgan had received the Art S. Williams Province Polemarch's Outstanding Service Award twice (65th and 71st Councils) when he was selected as the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award named in his honor. At the ceremony conferring the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award during the 80th Council, he also received his third Art S. Williams Province Polemarch's Outstanding Service Award, as well as the Percy H. Lee Most Outstanding Brother of the Year Award. Brother Morgan was later honored with the designation of "Province Keeper of Records & Exchequer Emeritus" at the 88th Province Council in 2010, and he became the 95th recipient of the fraternity's second highest honor, the Elder Watson Diggs Award, at the Centennial Celebration of Kappa Alpha Psi in 2011. | |
Brother Ivory Johnson, Jr. of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the SECOND recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 80th Middle Western Province Council on April 20, 2002. Brother Johnson was initiated at the St. Louis University-Harris Teachers College Chapter, the Beta Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on May 5, 1959. He has served the fraternity in numerous offices and at each administrative level including local Chapter Polemarch, Senior Province Vice Polemarch, Province Polemarch, and as a member of the Grand Board of Directors. He has been described by a former Province Polemarch as "a proven leader who is always open to input and suggestions from Brothers at all levels." He responds to the needs of all Brothers and practices an open door policy in communicating. He makes a concerted effort to insure that concerns and wishes of the general membership are considered in any major leadership decision. From the time of his initiation, he has demonstrated a desire and an ability to stand at the forefront as a leader in Kappa Alpha Psi. Brother Robert I. Mayes, Sr. of the Tulsa Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRD recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 80th Middle Western Province Council on April 20, 2002. Brother Mayes was initiated at the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore Chapter, the Gamma Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi on December 8, 1953. He has served in numerous capacities in the Tulsa Alumni Chapter including Chapter Polemarch, Historian, Director of Reclamation and Parliamentarian. At the province level, Brother Mayes has been a perennial supporter of Middle Western Province programs and projects, and he is singularly responsible for the province's successful ongoing fundraising project, the recognition of 25 Year Members through the sale of lapel pins that Brother Mayes designed. Brother Tommie H. Williams, Sr. of the Wichita Alumni Chapter was selected as the FOURTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 80th Middle Western Province Council on April 20, 2002. Brother Williams was initiated at the Wiley College Chapter, the Alpha Chi of Kappa Alpha Psi, on May 17, 1952. He has served the Wichita Alumni Chapter as its Keeper of Exchequer for many years, and has been recognized by the administration of the province as the most outstanding Chapter Keeper of Exchequer in the Middle Western Province. He is greatly known for the hospitality that he provides to all Brothers at the Province Council and Grand Chapter Meetings. He was awarded the Middle Western Province's Percy H. Lee Most Outstanding Alumni Brother of the Year Award in 1997. | |
Brother William Henry Coker, II of the Denver Alumni Chapter was selected as the FIFTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 81st Middle Western Province Council on March 29, 2003. Brother Coker was initiated at the University of Kansas Chapter, the Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on October 12, 1935. He has served the Denver Alumni Chapter as its Historian for many years, as well as Historian of the Middle Western Province. He was awarded the Middle Western Province's N. Webster Moore History Award in 2002. He has been a stalwart member of Kappa Alpha Psi, the Middle Western Province, and the Denver Alumni Chapter for more years than most of us have lived. His dedication to the fraternity has had a legacy impact on his son, Brother William Henry Coker, III, who is also a great Kappa man in his own right. Brother Elmer Joseph Crumbley of the Omaha Alumni Chapter was selected as the SIXTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 81st Middle Western Province Council on March 29, 2003. Brother Crumbley was initiated through the Omaha Alumni Chapter on December 11, 1976. He has served as that chapter's Polemarch, Keeper of Records & Exchequer, Board Member, and Membership Intake Chairman, to name a few. Brother Crumbley has served the province as Achievement Awards Chairman, Balloting Committee Chairman - 1998, Undergraduate Loan Fund Committee Co-Chairman, Chapter Advisor - Alpha Eta, as well as other committee assignments within our province. He has been a member of the Province Board of Directors for more than a decade, and serves as Undergraduate Advisors Committee Chairman. He has served on the Grand Chapter Achievement Commission and is currently on the Chapter Advisors Committee at the Grand Chapter level. His devotion to Kappa Alpha Psi is renown and it has infected his son, Brother Jason Alan Crumbley, who is following in his father's footsteps. Subsequent to receiving the award, Brother Crumbley was appointed as the 17th Middle Western Province Polemarch in December 2003 and served until September 9, 2009. Brother Mitchell Paul James of the Denver Alumni Chapter was selected as the SEVENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 81st Middle Western Province Council on March 29, 2003. Brother James was initiated through the Alabama State University Chapter, the Beta Zeta of Kappa Alpha Psi, on April 5, 1947. He has been the Elder Statesman and the "conscience" of the Province Board of Directors for many years, having served on the Board since 1977. His service to the province has included, among other things, Chairman of the Senior Kappa Affairs Committee, and Chairman of the Budget and Finance Committee for more than a dozen years. Brother Robert Lou Brown of the Langston Alumni Chapter was selected as the EIGHTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 82nd Middle Western Province Council on April 16, 2004. Brother Brown was initiated at Tuscaloosa Alumni in November 1973. He holds Life Membership #83-4647. He has been a member of the Huntsville (AL) Alumni, Oklahoma City (OK) Alumni and is currently a member of Langston (OK) Alumni. Brother Brown serves as Chapter Advisor for Alpha Pi and has been Keeper of Records of Langston Alumni over five years. Brother Brown holds a Master's Degree in Corrective Physical Education from the University of Alabama. He has been an Assistant Professor at Langston University since 1985. Previous teaching and coaching positions were held at Concordia College in Selma, Alabama, and the Alabama Department of Health. Brother Brown serves the community as the Secretary/Treasurer for Quayle United Methodist Church Men's Organization. Brother Brown and his wife, Lee, established the Cybil R. Brown Trike-A Thon and Safety Awareness Program. This joint fund raising effort with Alpha Kappa Alpha and Langston Alumni Chapter provides contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Brother David Leon DeVille of the Tulsa Alumni Chapter was selected as the NINTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 82nd Middle Western Province Council on April 16, 2004. Brother DeVille is an educator of long standing in Oklahoma. He received his undergraduate degree from Langston University in 1968 and a Master's of Education from Central State University in Edmond, Oklahoma . He was appointed Principal of the Franklin Youth Academy in Tulsa in 1998. Brother DeVille was initiated at Alpha Pi Chapter at Langston, is a Life Member of the fraternity and wears the Middle Western Province 25 year pin. He has served in a variety of offices including Polemarch, Vice Polemarch and a member of the Board of Directors at Tulsa Alumni. Brother DeVille has attended 25 Province Councils, 20 as a delegate, beginning in 1967. He has also attended 15 Grand Chapter Meetings starting in 1967. Chapter achievements include "Kappa of the Year" in 1980 and the first two term Polemarch in Tulsa Alumni. Brother DeVille is active at St. Augustine Catholic Church where he is Chairman of the Parish Council. He has been voted "Outstanding Administrator of the Year" for the Tulsa Area Alliance of Black School Educators, and was appointed to serve on the Statewide Alternative Education Advisory Committee. | |
Brother Robert LaVern Gray of the Tulsa Alumni Chapter was selected as the TENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 82nd Middle Western Province Council on April 16, 2004. At that same Province Council, Brother Gray received the "Percy H. Lee Most Outstanding Brother of the Year" award. Brother Gray was initiated at the Beta Psi Chapter, Kansas State University in March 1971. He was also a charter member of the Zeta Rho Chapter at Northeastern State University. He has held numerous offices in both the undergraduate and alumni chapters including Polemarch, Keeper of Exchequer, and Board Member. He has also served in a variety of committee chairmanships including Guide Right and Chapter Advisor to Zeta Theta at Oklahoma State University. Brother Gray proudly wears the 25 Year pin of the Middle Western province. He has attended twelve Province Councils and all but 3 CRWLC meetings since 1988. Brother Gray has numerous chapter achievements including the implementation of a middle school mentor program, start up of the Tulsa Ebony Awareness Bowl, sponsorship of a middle school basketball team and founder of the chapter's Lifetime Achievement Award for Brothers with 40 or more years of service. He has received the Tulsa Alumni's highest award four times. Brother Gray is active in the community as coach of boy's soccer, girl's middle school basketball, and the Antioch Baptist Church boy's basketball team. He has been the Men's Brotherhood Secretary at Antioch for the last 10 years. | |
Brother Earl C. Hill, Jr. of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the ELEVENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 82nd Middle Western Province Council on April 16, 2004. Brother Hill was initiated at Alpha Mu Chapter, Lincoln University, Missouri in December 1950. Over the years, Bother Hill has a distinguished record of service to the Fraternity including Polemarch of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter from 1976 to 1982, the longest term in the history of the Chapter. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Middle Western Province 1976-1982 and was the Middle Western Province auditor and member of the Grand Chapter Reclamation Committee. During his term of office in St. Louis, the Kappa League Scholarship was brought to national prominence. As Chairman, Brother Hill has led the effort to raise thousands of dollars for the Kappa League Scholarship Fund. A notable event is the "Jazz On Sunday Afternoon" project which has become a St. Louis tradition. Brother Hill organized the Adopt Cole Elementary School program serving as chairman for 4 years. Other community service includes Treasurer of the Lincoln University Alumni Association at the city and state levels. Church affiliations include Scruggs Memorial CME where he is treasurer. He is also treasurer of the Joseph H. Henderson Scholarship Fund of the St. Louis CME Church. Brother Hill holds a BS in Biology from Lincoln, University in Jefferson City, Missouri. He worked for the Defense Mapping Agency where he held middle management supervisory positions. Brother Hill holds numerous awards including the Middle Western Province Achievement Award, the St. Louis Alumni J. Jerome Peters Professionalism Award, Art S. Williams Province Polemarch's Award and the St. Louis Alumni Chapter Polemarch's Award. In addition he holds 6 individual awards from Lincoln University including the Alumni distinguished service Award and the Alumni of the Year Award. Brother James L. Williams, Jr. of the Omaha Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWELFTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 83rd Middle Western Province Council on March 19, 2005. Brother Williams was initiated at Gamma Epsilon Chapter, Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama on May 6, 1955. Brother Williams graduated with a B.S. Degree from the Tuskegee Institute in Physical Education with a minor in Biological Science in 1957. After graduation from college, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force through the ROTC program. While in the Air Force, Brother Williams had a very distinguished career and held several command positions until his retirement in 1982 as a colonel, (0-6). Brother Williams has had a very active and celebrated life within Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He has served as Keeper of Records with the Jacksonville (FL) and Topeka (KS) Alumni Chapters. Life Member Williams (#87-4270) has been a long time member of the Omaha Alumni Chapter. He has served as Chapter Polemarch, Keeper of Exchequer, and is currently the Keeper of Records of the Omaha Alumni Chapter. Brother Williams is affectionately called the "Ceedy" Morgan of the Omaha Alumni Chapter because of his long continued service to the chapter as its Keeper of Records. Brother James L. Williams, Jr. is the recipient of the Omaha Alumni Chapter's Lifetime Achievement Award. Brother Williams is married to the former Lucinda Banks. James and Lucinda have three children and seven grandchildren. | |
Brother Charles E. Crawford, Jr. of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 84th Middle Western Province Council on April 7, 2006. Brother Crawford is a 50 year member of Kappa Alpha Psi who was initiated into our fraternity through the Beta Nu Chapter on November 20, 1954. He became a Life Member of the fraternity in 1978 (#78-2713) and is a member of the St. Louis (MO) Alumni Chapter having served the chapter in several capacities including Chapter Polemarch. Brother Crawford's most notable service to the Middle Western Province began in 1983 when he was appointed Province Keeper of Records & Exchequer to fill the unexpired term of Brother Herbert C. King who had joined the Chapter Invisible while serving in that office. Thereafter, and for a period of nine years, Brother Crawford's performance of his duties was impeccable including service to the Middle Western Province as Chairman of the Province Bylaws Committee. As evidence of the province's enduring faith and confidence in Brother Crawford as our Province Keeper of Records and Exchequer, he was never contested for that elective office in any year during his nine years in office. He is one of the finest examples of dedication and commitment to our province and is most deserving of our Lifetime Achievement Award. Brother Reuben Anderson Shelton, III of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the FOURTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 84th Middle Western Province Council on April 7, 2006. Brother Shelton was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Mu Chapter on November 23, 1974. He became a Life Member in 1986 (#86-6360) and is a member of the St. Louis (MO) Alumni Chapter, currently serving as the Chapter Vice Polemarch. Brother Shelton also became a Life Member of the Middle Western Province in 2003 (#17). Brother Shelton is a Past Middle Western Province Polemarch, but his most notable service to the province has been as Province General Counsel for 18 years without any compensation. As our General Counsel, he has assured that our province has had the very best legal representation and advice under sometimes difficult circumstances. Brother Shelton has also exhibited meritorious participation in the promotion of several programs within our province including the establishment of the Middle Western Province Guide Right Foundation, establishment and supervision of the State of Missouri Kappa License Tag project, establishment of the province's Emergency Reserve Fund, our Undergraduate Chapter Loan Fund, and more. He has performed a plus job of administering the duties of General Counsel with judgment, initiative and resourcefulness, objectively measured in terms of actual results over a period of eighteen successive years. By every measure, Brother Shelton is very deserving of being selected as a recipient of our province's highest award. Subsequent to receiving the award, Brother Shelton was elected to the Grand Board of Directors at the 2007 Grand Chapter Meeting. At the 2015 Grand Chapter Meeting, he was elected Senior Grand Vice Polemarch, and he was subsequently elected Grand Polemarch at the 2019 Grand Chapter Meeting. | |
Brother Columbus "Chris" Veasey, Jr. of the Denver Alumni Chapter was selected as the FIFTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 84th Middle Western Province Council on April 7, 2006. Brother Veasey was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Denver Alumni Chapter on May 31, 1973. He became a Life Member in 1977 (#77-2346) and is a member of the Denver (CO) Alumni Chapter, having served the chapter as Keeper of Exchequer and Planning Committee Chairman for the 74th Middle Western Province Council. Brother Veasey's most notable contribution to the Middle Western Province has been as our Province Audit Committee Chairman, a position he has held without compensation for twenty-one years, since 1985. Among Brother Veasey's strengths is his tact and diplomacy in dealing with sensitive issues. During his tenure he has had to oversee audits for Middle Western Province during times of turmoil. At that time he maintained a high level of professionalism, showing impartiality and integrity to the circumstances of the audit. He maintained strict confidentiality, and his love for Kappa Alpha Psi and the Middle Western Province was foremost. The audit process was meticulous with every penny reconciled and every question answered to his satisfaction. Because of his tenacity, the Middle Western Province's financial status is now respected, despite some of difficulties it has gone through. Brother Veasey has not only met the stringent requirements for receiving the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award, he has surpassed them. Brother Clayton McCauley Evans of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the SIXTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 85th Middle Western Province Council on April 13, 2007. Brother Evans was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Elizabeth City State University Chapter, the Epsilon Alpha of Kappa Alpha Psi, on January 18, 1976. He became a Life Member of the fraternity in 1985 (#85-5575) and is a member of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter. Brother Evans also became a Life Member of the Middle Western Province in 2007 (#61). Brother Evans holds the distinction of exemplary service in two provinces, the Eastern Province and the Middle Western Province. His most notable service to the Middle Western Province has been as a member of the Province Board of Directors and he chairs the Province Council Planning Committee, a responsibility that he has held through the administrations of two Province Polemarchs. Brother Evans has also served on the Grand Chapter Planning Committee. His dedication to the fraternity and his attention to detail have earned him the respect of the Middle Western Province. One of the greatest testaments to his achievement is the fact that our Province Councils have gotten better with each passing year, thanks to the hard work that he has done in the background to make everything appear easy and seamless, all of which would not have happened without his singular effort at the forefront. | |
Brother William Francis Gaffney of the Langston Alumni Chapter was selected as the SEVENTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 85th Middle Western Province Council on April 13, 2007. Brother Gaffney was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Langston University Chapter, the Alpha Pi of Kappa Alpha Psi, on October 21, 1973. He became a Life Member in 2006 (#06-14455) and is a member of the Langston Alumni Chapter, having served the Chapter as a member of the Board of Directors for two years and as Keeper of Exchequer for seven years. Brother Gaffney also became a Life Member of the Middle Western Province in 2006 (#50). Brother Gaffney's most notable service to the Middle Western Province has been as an Alpha Pi Chapter Advisor for seven years in conjunction with Brother Robert "Lou" Brown. In that capacity he has earned the respect and regard of the officers and members of Alpha Pi as a tireless worker and consummate "Brother in the Bond" of Kappa Alpha Psi. Additionally, the "Brown-Gaffney" advisory team has become renown for their successful tandem approach in advising the undergraduate chapter under their supervision. Brother Gaffney's service to the province has also included five years as Province Nominating Committee Chairman. His performance of his duties has been impeccable and worthy of high praise. He has been eminently fair and consistent in what some consider to be one of the most challenging chairmanships in our province. | |
Brother Donald Coleman Bland of the Fayetteville Alumni Chapter was selected as the EIGHTEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 86th Middle Western Province Council on April 18, 2008. Brother Bland was initiated through the Beta Nu Chapter at Harris State Teachers College on April 29, 1961. At Beta Nu, he served as Keeper of Records and as a member of the Board of Directors. Upon graduation he joined the St. Louis Alumni Chapter where he served as Undergraduate Chapter Advisor and Assistant Keeper of Records. Brother Bland's many business relocations sent him to the Chicago area where he became a charter member of the Maywood-Wheaton Alumni Chapter in 1977. At that chapter's 30 year anniversary, Brother Bland was the keynote speaker. During another relocation that took him to Wichita in 1991, Brother Bland joined the Wichita Alumni Chapter and was elected Polemarch for the 1991-1992 year. In 1993 Brother Bland moved to Bentonville, Arkansas. In 1996, he and 13 other Kappa Men chartered the Fayetteville Alumni Chapter. His employment with Wal-Mart took him to Canada and Argentina, but he remained financially active with the Fayetteville Alumni Chapter. Brother Bland is currently the Middle Western Province Achievement Commission Chairman and represents the province on the National Achievement Commission which selects the highest awards in our Fraternity. Brother Bland has been a Life Member of the fraternity since 1992 (#11042) and a Province Life Member of the Middle Western Province (#43). He is a business, fraternal, community and family leader who is dedicated to Kappa Alpha Psi. He has truly been an inspirational leader in the Fayetteville Alumni Chapter and the Middle Western Province. Brother Odell Vernis Gunter, Sr. of the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter was selected as the NINETEENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 86th Middle Western Province Council on April 18, 2008. Brother Gunter was initiated through the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter on August 23, 1970. He is an exemplary member who has achieved in his several fields of human endeavor and has been the constant that has helped maintain and sustain the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter. The chapter has depended on his wisdom and guidance for many years. Brother Gunter has served as Keeper of Records of the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter for 20 years and his contribution to the Middle Western Province has been as chairman of the Province Credentials Committee for seven years. As one of the senior statesmen in the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter's leadership positions, he always volunteers his services and his transportation to make sure that the chapter is represented at all required functions. Brother Gunter has represented the fraternity well and continues to fulfill the legacy of Kappa Langston men from this area including the legendary "Prof" H. C. King, William Lee, Jessie Stewart, and Andrew "Stump" Hill. Brother Gunter stands among the great men of Kappa who never sought the limelight or recognition but continue to achieve through that "Good Ol' Kappa Spirit." Brother Thomas Sterling Wetzel of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTIETH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 86th Middle Western Province Council on April 18, 2008. Brother Wetzel was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi at the Alpha Rho Chapter in Chicago, Illinois on July 6, 1963. His Kappa experience has led him to affiliations with the Chicago Alumni Chapter (1969-1977), the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter (1967-1969) and the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter (2002-present). He has been a Life Member of the fraternity since 1975 (#1629). Brother Wetzel was instrumental in the reactivation of the Oklahoma State University Chapter, the Zeta Theta of Kappa Alpha Psi. He served as both Faculty Advisor and Chapter Advisor for five years, from 2002-2007. He is also very active with the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter where he has served as Chapter Strategus for several years and has been awarded that chapter's Annual Founder's Award. His service to the Middle Western Province has included chairmanship of the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference Committee where he has excelled as the member who is singularly responsible for preparing those conferences with the approval of the Province Polemarch. In each instance, his tireless contributions to our province have been outstanding and have proven his personal commitment to our fraternity. Brother Thomas J. Brown, Jr. of the Independence Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-FIRST recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 87th Middle Western Province Council on April 28, 2009. Brother Brown was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi through the Northeast Missouri State University Chapter, the Epsilon Eta of Kappa Alpha Psi, on May 5, 1973. He also served as Polemarch, Keeper of Exchequer and Strategus of the Culver-Stockton College Chapter, the Eta Kappa of Kappa Alpha Psi. As a member of Kansas City Alumni Chapter, Brother Brown served four terms on the chapter's Board of Directors, Chairman of the Spring Dance Committee, Representative to the local Pan-Hellenic Council, Chairman of the Social Action Committee and Chairman of the Scholarship Committee. In 2003, Brother Brown became one of the Charter Members of the Independence Alumni Chapter. Recognized as a natural leader, he was elected as that chapter's first Polemarch, a position that he held for three years. His service to the Middle Western Province has included chairmanship of the Province Social Action Committee and the Province Political Action Committee. He is currently serving as Senior Province Vice Polemarch, the highest elected office of our province, where his leadership has been recognized by the national leadership of our fraternity. Brother Terrance S. Milan of the Independence Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-SECOND recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 87th Middle Western Province Council on April 28, 2009. Brother Milan was initiated through the University of Kansas Chapter, the Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on March 21, 1970. While he was an undergraduate member, Brother Milan served the province with distinction as Junior Province Vice Polemarch in 1972. As a member of Kansas City Alumni Chapter, he served as a member of the Board of Directors, Chairman of the Valentine's Dance Committee and Chairman of the Province Activities Committee. Brother Milan was instrumental in the establishment of the Independence Alumni Chapter as a Charter Member in 2003 where he still serves that chapter as its Keeper of Records. To say that his performance in that capacity is invaluable is truly an understatement. He is meticulous and is well-known for his dogged pursuit of records, pictures, summaries and articles relative to the chapter's activities. He is solely responsible for the care and maintenance of the chapter's archives and has thereby become the information epicenter of his chapter. Brother Milan's service to the province has included being our voting delegate to the 77th and 78th Grand Chapter Meetings in St. Louis and Minneapolis, respectively, and he will be our voting delegate at the 79th Grand Chapter Meeting this summer in Washington, D.C. His most recognizable service has been as the Province Director of Finance since 2002, a position in which has received exemplary reviews and kudos from our Province Audit Committee. Brother David Shelton, III of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-THIRD recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 87th Middle Western Province Council on April 28, 2009. Brother Shelton was initiated into Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity at the University of Central Oklahoma Chapter, the Epsilon Gamma of Kappa Alpha Psi, on May 7, 1977. As a member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter, he has served as Chapter Vice Polemarch and most notably as Membership Chairman for more than twelve years. Brother Shelton's service to the Middle Western Province began more than 18 years ago when he was appointed Chapter Advisor to his own chapter of initiation, Epsilon Gamma. During the many years that he served in that capacity, he became known as the "standard" by which Chapter Advisors were measured in our province. He currently serves the province with great distinction as Chairman of the Province Membership Orientation and Intake Program Committee, a position in which the challenges of maintaining our fraternity's standards would probably become confrontational for others. But not Brother Shelton. His unique and sincere way of working with people has made him the right man for the right job in our province. His further service to the province includes his position as a Middle Western Province Chaplain. In that capacity, Brother Shelton's faith has helped guide all of us. | |
Brother Willie H. Burnett, Sr. of the Wichita Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-FOURTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 88th Middle Western Province Council on April 10, 2010. Brother Willie H. Burnett, Sr. was initiated through the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter on May 11, 1984, where he served in several capacities including Historian, Social Committee Chairman, Delegate to Province Councils and Grand Chapter Meetings, and as an active member of several important committees. He became a Life Member of Kappa Alpha Psi in 1987 (#6823), and became a Life Member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter in 1988 (#18). Brother Burnett was elected Chapter Polemarch for four consecutive terms (1988-1992), and was singularly responsible for a number of local chapter initiatives. During his first term, his dogged determination led the chapter to purchase its "Kappa Kastle" which has since become debt free. In 1992, the chapter honored Brother Burnett with its Biennial Achievement Award, the first time the chapter bestowed its highest recognition to a Chapter Polemarch while he was still in office. In that same year, he received the Middle Western Province Percy H. Lee Most Outstanding Alumni Brother of the Year Award. Brother Burnett has been published in our fraternity's Journal twice, having written articles for the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter newsletter that were recognized as having national significance by Past Grand Polemarch Ullysses McBride and Past Grand Polemarch Robert L. Harris. In 1994, Brother Burnett was appointed Middle Western Province Polemarch by Past Grand Polemarch Harris. Past Grand Polemarch Ronald R. Young reappointed him in 1995, then elevated him to National Director of Guide Right in 1996. In 2002, Brother Burnett affiliated with the Wichita Alumni Chapter where he has since served as a source of inspiration and wisdom to the officers and members of the chapter. His service to the Middle Western Province has also included chairmanship of the Council of Past Province Polemarchs for the last eight years. Brother Isaac Dowdell of the Colorado Springs Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-FIFTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 89th Middle Western Province Council on March 19, 2011. Brother Isaac Dowdell was initiated through the North Carolina A&T University Chapter, the Alpha Nu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on December 5, 1970. As a member of Colorado Springs Alumni Chapter, he has served that chapter as Vice Polemarch, member of the Board of Directors, Membership Intake Chairman, and Director of Reclamation. He is currently serving as Chapter Polemarch. Brother Dowdell has served as Chapter Advisor for the Colorado Springs Metropolitan Area Chapter, the Omicron Pi of Kappa Alpha Psi, which includes the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Colorado College and the United States Air Force Academy. The brothers of the Middle Western Province have demonstrated their faith in him by electing him to the Middle Western Province Board of Directors in 2007, and he was reelected to a second three-year term in 2010. His service to the province has also included Executive Operating Assistant to the Province Polemarch (2001-2009), Province Representative to the National Corporate Alliance Cluster Committee of the Corporate & Strategic Alliance Clusters (2004-2009), and the Undergraduate Affairs Committee of the province. Brother Joe Louis Terrell of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-SIXTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 89th Middle Western Province Council on March 19, 2011. Brother Joe Louis Terrell was initiated through the Tougaloo College Chapter, the Gamma Rho of Kappa Alpha Psi, on December 15, 1958. He was elected Polemarch in 1959 but transferred to the Mu Chapter in the fall of that year before serving the term. He was elected Polemarch at Mu for the 1960-61 term. Brother Terrell has been continuously active with the Kansas City Alumni Chapter, the Middle Western Province and Grand Chapter since 1965. He has served the Kansas City Alumni Chapter as Polemarch, Vice Polemarch, Keeper of Exchequer, Historian, and member of the Board of Directors. The Chapter honored him with the Kappa Man of the Year Award in 1975 and 1981, and the "Lenis Boswell Conscience of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter Award" in 2000 and 2011. He is currently serving as Chairman of the Kansas City Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Foundation. Brother Terrell has served on the Province Board of Directors, served on the Grand Chapter Awards Committee for over five years, and served as the Middle Western Province Achievement Awards Chairman for twenty years. For his many years of outstanding service, he received the Art S. Williams Province Polemarch's Outstanding Service Award in 1990. Brother Terrell served as advisor to the University of Kansas Chapter, the Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, for 15 years. Brother James Russell Keel of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-SEVENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 90th Middle Western Province Council on April 21, 2012. Brother James Russell Keel was initiated through the Wichita Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on April 18, 1981. Since his initiation into the Bond, Brother Keel has never been inactive and has served in leadership roles in Omaha (NE) Alumni (Vice Polemarch), Riverside (CA) Alumni (Vice Polemarch), and several offices and positions in Oklahoma City (OK) Alumni including Polemarch, Vice Polemarch, and local chairman for the Middle Western Province Councils held in Oklahoma City in 1997 and 2007. He has served as the Director of Guide Right since 1999 and has indeed set himself apart with his intense efforts working with the chapter's Kappa Leadership League, which has earned the chapter thousands of dollars in grants to assist young people in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. Brother Keel's service to the Middle Western Province has included Nominating Committee Chairman, Director of Guide Right, Student of the Year Pageant Chairman, Representative to the National Association of Fraternity Advisors, and Chairman of Chapter Advisors. At the Grand Chapter level, Brother Keel has served on the National Guide Right Committee and is currently serving on the National Chapter Advisors Committee. Notably, Brother Keel has been recognized by the fraternity's leadership and our rank-and-file membership for "The Keel Concept" documentary that he authored which recommends that the fraternity eliminate the two-fraternity system and adopt a true "One Kappa" approach. Brother Charles Francis McAfee of the Wichita Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-EIGHTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 90th Middle Western Province Council on April 21, 2012. Brother Charles Francis McAfee was initiated through the Wichita Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on April 4, 1952. Brother McAfee served as the 8th Middle Western Province Polemarch from 1967 through 1975. During his tenure, he chartered five undergraduate chapters and two alumni chapters: Zeta Theta at Oklahoma State University; Zeta Rho at Northeastern Oklahoma State University; Zeta Omega at the University of Oklahoma; Eta Kappa at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Missouri; Eta Omicron at Cameron University in Lawton, Oklahoma; Colorado Springs (CO) Alumni; and Langston (OK) Alumni. At the 73rd Middle Western Province Council held in Tulsa in 1995, Brother McAfee was awarded the "Percy H. Lee Achievement Award" as the "Most Outstanding Brother of the Year" in recognition of his many contributions to our fraternity. Brother McAfee was featured on the cover of the Kappa Journal (December 1964) that included a four-page article highlighting his architectural career. It was noted that he had received a Housing and Home Finance Agency award presented in Washington, DC by the commissioner of the Federal Housing Administration. He is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation's "Million Dollar Club" (1998) as evidence of his true commitment to the high ideals of our fraternity. His life is one that we should hold up to our Brothers as an exemplary one, worthy of recognition as a recipient of the highest award in the Middle Western Province. Brother Albert Louis Myers, Jr. of the Jefferson City Alumni Chapter was selected as the TWENTY-NINTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 90th Middle Western Province Council on April 21, 2012. Brother Albert Louis Myers, Jr. was initiated through the Knoxville College Chapter, the Beta Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi, on November 28, 1964. He is a second-generation Kappa, following in the footsteps of his late father, Brother Albert L. Myers, Sr., who joined the Chapter Invisible in 2003. Brother Myers has been a member of the Jefferson City Alumni Chapter for 26 years and has held numerous offices and positions including Polemarch, Vice Polemarch, Strategus, and Membership Intake Chairman. He has chaired the annual "Thanksgiving and Christmas Giving Committee" for the last twelve years and has been the guiding force behind the selection of families, choice of food, presents and delivery to the families in time for the holidays. Brother Myers was instrumental in starting the chapter's Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament which he also chaired for the first 18 years. Due to his dedication to this project, numerous college students have benefited from our chapter's fundraising projects. In recognition of his service, the tournament was renamed in his honor in 2007 to the "Albert L. Myers, Jr. Scholarship Golf Tournament." His service to the Middle Western Province has included Chapter Advisor to the Lincoln University Chapter, the Alpha Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, and Chapter Advisor to the University of Missouri Chapter, the Delta Omega of Kappa Alpha Psi. He has also served as Chairman of the Province Reclamation Committee and as a member of the Province Senior Affairs Committee. Brother Berry Hackett Pitts, III of the Norman Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTIETH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 90th Middle Western Province Council on April 21, 2012. Brother Berry Hackett Pitts, III was initiated through the Honolulu Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi on November 14, 1981. For many years in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Brother Pitts was recognized by the Middle Western Province AS BEING Norman Alumni Chapter. Brother Pitts almost single-handedly maintained the chapter programs during a period of near inactivity in his long tenure as Chapter Polemarch. It would not be an exaggeration to say that were it not for Brother Pitts' dedication and tenacity, the Norman Alumni Chapter would not have survived during this period. Brother Pitts served as Polemarch of Norman Alumni for over ten years and simultaneously served in increasingly responsible positions at the province level. Ultimately, Brother Pitts was elected and appointed to serve as Middle Western Province Senior Province Vice Polemarch for three terms in the early 2000s. Additional service to the fraternity by Brother Pitts has included Chapter Advisor to the University of Oklahoma Chapter - the Zeta Omega of Kappa Alpha Psi, Province Chapter Advisors Trainer, Province Delegate to the 75th Grand Chapter Meeting, and a member of the Chapter Advisors Training Cluster of the Grand Chapter's Leadership Development & Career Development Clusters. His service, like that of Brother Morgan for whom this award is named, is what makes Kappa Alpha Psi the great, durable organization that it is. His record is one of lifetime achievement and service to Kappa Alpha Psi. Brother Kevin C. Cox of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-FIRST recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 91st Middle Western Province Council on April 13, 2013. Brother Kevin C. Cox was initiated through the Florida A&M University Chapter, the Alpha Xi of Kappa Alpha Psi, on November 21, 1969. As a member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter, Brother Cox holds the singular distinction of being the only member who has served as Chapter Polemarch in non-consecutive terms (1980-1983 and 2005-2010) and he holds the record for the most years served as Chapter Polemarch (8). He has also served as Vice Polemarch, Strategus, Lt. Strategus and member of the Board of Directors. He is currently serving as Ex-officio Member of the chapter's Board of Directors and continues to participate on several chapter committees. For his many achievements in Kappa Alpha Psi, the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter honored him with its highest award, the Biennial Achievement Award in 1984, as well as the Founders' Award in 1996. Brother Cox has chaired the Grand Chapter Resolutions Committee and served as moderator for the Candidate Forum at several Grand Chapter Meetings. He served as Special Assistant to the Grand Polemarch for the Middle Western Province during the administration of Past Grand Polemarch Oliver Gumbs, who awarded Brother Cox for his service. His service to the Middle Western Province was exemplified by his unselfish and dedicated role as Chapter Advisor to the University of Central Oklahoma Chapter, the Epsilon Gamma of Kappa Alpha Psi. Brother Lynn S. Anderson of the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-SECOND recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 92nd Middle Western Province Council on April 5, 2014. Brother Lynn S. Anderson was initiated through the Cameron University Chapter, the Eta Omicron of Kappa Alpha Psi, on April 3, 1981. While at Eta Omicron he held the office of Polemarch (1983-1984). Upon graduation, he joined the Lawton-Fort Sill Alumni Chapter and later served as Chapter Polemarch for ten years (2003-2013). Under Brother Anderson's leadership, he inspired the chapter to make significant contributions to St. Jude Children's Hospital. He is currently serving as Chapter Reporter and Co-Chair of the Lawton-Fort Sill Kappa League Program. Brother Anderson has gone above and beyond the call in showing his commitment to the fraternity by sponsoring his son to participate in Kappa Kamp in 2013, and he will sponsor both of his sons for the 2014 Kappa Kamp while also serving as a Kamp Kounselor. He also had the distinction of being keynote speaker for the Oklahoma Statewide Founders' Day Banquet sponsored by the Tulsa Alumni Chapter in 2010. Brother Anderson is recognized as one of the community leaders with the Lawton-Fort Sill Chapter of the National Pan-Hellenic Council where he has served as President.His service to the Middle Western Province has included Province Chaplain, originally appointed by Middle Western Province Polemarch Elmer Crumbley in 2009. Brother Clifford D. Franklin of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-THIRD recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 94th Middle Western Province Council on March 18, 2016. Brother Clifford D. Franklin was initiated through the University of Kansas Chapter, the Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on April 23, 1983. While at Mu he held the offices of Keeper of Records, Vice Polemarch and Polemarch. Under the 29th, 30th and 31st Grand Polemarchs, Brother Franklin was appointed to several Grand Chapter Committees. In his capacity as President of FUSE, his full-service integrated advertising agency, he was uniquely situated to serve concurrently on the Publicity and Publications, Corporate Affairs, and Grand Chapter Meeting Planning Committees, as well as FUSE serving as publisher of the Kappa Journal for two years. He was one of the first to bring in major corporate sponsors to the Conclaves. Brother Franklin currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer of the Fraternity. He served two terms on the Board of Directors of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter and was appointed the 18th Middle Western Province Polemarch in 2009 where he served for six years (2009-2015). Brother Franklin served as the Vice Chair of the Council of Province Polemarchs and was recognized as the "Dean of Province Polemarchs" by his colleagues. He received the award at the 95th Middle Western Province Council on March 13, 2017. Brother Thomas A. Scott was initiated through the Meharry Medical College Chapter, the Kappa of Kappa Alpha Psi, on May 9, 1980. He served as Wichita Alumni Chapter Polemarch from 2010 to 2014 and was elected to the Middle Western Province Board of Directors in 2015 where he continues to serve with distinction. Brother Scott's principle service to the Middle Western Province has been as Health & Wellness Chairman ("Healthy Kappas - Healthy Communities") since 2011 and as a representative of our province on the same Grand Chapter Committee since 2011. He has conducted the Health & Wellnes programs, screening and presentations at our Province C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conferences and Middle Western Province Councils. Brother Scott's benevolent and dedicated service has extended to planning and hosting health focused events including on-site community asthma screenings conducted at Samuel Spaght Elementary School, Holy Savior Elementary School and Sunflower Community Action/St. Paul AME Church in Wichita, Kansas. He received the award at the 96th Middle Western Province Council on May 4, 2018. Brother Victor C. Beanum, Sr. was initiated through the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Chapter, the Iota Tau of Kappa Alpha Psi, on November 22, 1985. He served as Iota Tau Chapter Polemarch, Vice Polemarch and Keeper of Records, and also served as an Undergraduate Member of the Middle Western Province Board of Directors. As his career led him to Little Rock, Arkansas, he served as Vice Polemarch and Keeper of Records of the Little Rock Alumni Chapter. He then moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he joined the St. Louis Alumni Chapter and accepted various committees assignments. Upon moving to Omaha, Nebraska, he served as Omaha Alumni Chapter Polemarch, Membership Intake Chairman and Director of Guide Right. Brother Beanum's principle service to the province has been as a member of the Province Board of Directors, Kappa Credit Union Committee Chairman, and Time and Place Committee Chairman. At the 89th Middle Western Province Council he received the Percy H. Lee Award as the Most Outstanding Alumni Member of the province. Brother Elbert Dean Brown, Jr. of the Denver Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-SIXTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 96th Middle Western Province Council on May 4, 2018. Brother Elbert Dean Brown, Jr. was initiated through the Hartford (CT) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, on February 11, 1990. Upon moving to Denver, Colorado, he joined the Denver Alumni Chapter where he has served as Keeper of Records, Keeper of Exchequer and on several committees. Brother Brown's most notable service to the Middle Western Province has been as Keeper of Exchequer for more than eight years since September 9, 2009. In that capacity, he has exhibited the highest level of competence and dependability. He has also served as Chairman of the Province Bylaws Committee and as a former member of the Province Audit Committee for more than ten years. He has earned the respect and regard of the officers and members of our province as a tireless worker and the epitome of what a Province Keeper of Exchequer should be. Brother Shawn M. Oglesby of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-SEVENTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 97th Middle Western Province Council on April 5, 2019. Brother Shawn M. Oglesby began his association with the fraternity as a member of the East St. Louis Kappa League while he was in high school in 1988-89. He was initiated through The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Chapter, the Gamma Sigma of Kappa Alpha Psi on February 28, 1991. While he was an undergraduate, he was elected Keeper of Records (August 1992-December 1993), he received the Gamma Sigma "Outstanding Brother" award in both 1992 and 1993, and was also cited as having the Highest GPA (4.0) among all Greeks in the Spring 1992 semester. After receiving his undergraduate degree in May 1994, Brother Oglesby accepted employment with the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City where one of his first priorities was to become a member of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter. In the years since then, he has served the chapter with distinction, including setting some chapter records that may never be broken, including being elected to a record fourteen consecutive terms as Chapter Keeper of Records (1995-2009) and becoming the only member to receive the chapter's highest award twice, The Biennial Achievement Award, in both 2006 and 2014. His attendance record has been an impressive 281 of 284 regular meetings through December 2018. After serving as Chapter Keeper of Records, Brother Oglesby was elected Chapter Vice Polemarch for one term, then three terms as Chapter Polemarch (2010-2013) which gave him the singular distinction of being the "icon" of the Oklahoma City Alumni Chapter as Centennial Polemarch during the fraternity's 100 Year Anniversary. A few of the chapter's achievements that are directly attributable to Brother Oglesby's leadership have been: the Roof Restoration Project of the Kappa Kastle (estimated at $45,000); establishment of the chapter's presence on social media (Facebook, Twitter & Instagram); streamlined the duties of the chapter's Exchequer (electronic bill payment and mobile banking); established the chapter's website and membership directory; designed the chapter's Polo shirts; reestablished the Ways & Means Committee; increased membership through the Membership Orientation & Intake Program; established the 1st "Statewide Founders' Weekend of Events" and more. Brother Oglesby's committee participation in his chapter has included: Achievement Committee Chairman (since 2015); Bylaws Committee Chairman (since 2015); Past Polemarchs Council Chairman (since 2017); Guide Right Committee member (since 2007); and Ways & Means Committee member (since 2012). For his many unselfish contributions to the chapter, Brother Oglesby has also received the chapter's Polemarch's Award (2001) and Founders' Award (2014). He has also attended six National Founders' Day celebrations. As a member of the Middle Western Province since 1994, Brother Oglesby has attended 18 Province Councils, the last 15 consecutively, and he has attended every C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference since 1995. Brother Oglesby's most notable service to the Middle Western Province has been as Province Keeper of Records since 2015. He has also served as a member of the Province Board of Directors (2013-2015), Balloting Committee Chairman (2007-2012), On-Site Registration Chairman (2008-2011), and Communication Committee Chairman (since 2016). For these and other exemplary indicators of his dedication to our province, Brother Oglesby has received the Percy H. Lee Achievement Award (2014) and the Art S. Williams Province Polemarch's Outstanding Service Award (2016). Brother Damon Odell Barry of the Denver Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-EIGHTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the Special Middle Western Province Council on September 19, 2020. Brother Barry was initiated through the University of Washington Chapter, the Gamma Eta of Kappa Alpha Psi, on March 6, 1992. While at Gamma Eta Chapter, he served as Keeper of Exchequer (1992-1993), Vice Polemarch (1993-1994), Membership Intake Chairman (1993), Polemarch (1994-1995), Western Province Board of Directors (1994-1995 and 1995-1996), 47th Western Province Council Planning Committee, and Western Province Credentials Committee. He was also honored as the First Past Honoree Speaker of the Denver Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Foundation (1992), Public Meeting Speaker and Undergraduate Luncheon Speaker at the 47th Western Province Council (1994), First Undergraduate Keynote Speaker at the Pacific Northwest Founders' Day (1995), Undergraduate Luncheon Speaker at the 48th Western Province Council (1995), and Western Province Delegate to the Inaugural Undergraduate Summit at Indiana University (1994). He became a recipient of the E. Lionel Davis Undergraduate Achievement Award at the 48th Western Province Council (1995) and the 30th Guy L. Grant Award at the 72nd Grand Chapter Meeting (1995). While he was a member of the Seattle Alumni Chapter, Brother Barry served on the chapter's Board of Directors (1995-1996) and Housing Committee (1995-1996). He was a member of the Western Province Achievement Commission (1996), Chairman of the Western Province Student Revolving Loan Committee, and a member of the Grand Chapter Student Revolving Loan Committee. When Brother Barry moved to Nebraska, he affiliated with the Lincoln Alumni Chapter where he was elected Chapter Polemarch (1998-1999 and 1999-2000), Keeper of Records, Director of Guide Right, and he grew the chapter's membership from 2 to 15 members and mentored the growth of the Eta Chapter from 2 to 10 members. Brother Barry then moved to Colorado where he affiliated with the Denver Alumni Chapter and served as Keeper of Records (2001-2002 and 2002-2003), Master of Ceremonies at the Denver Kappa Alpha Psi Scholarship Luncheon (2002 and 2003), Vice Polemarch (2005-2006 and 2006-2007), Man of the Year (2007), and Chapter Polemarch (2008-2009 and 2009-2010). His service to the province during that time included Middle Western Province Transition Committee Co-Chairman (2009-2010), Middle Western Province Chief Executive Operating Assistant, and Middle Western Province Corporate Strategic Alliance. Brother Barry was elected Senior Province Vice Polemarch of the Middle Western Province (2009-2015) and was appointed as the 19th Middle Western Province Polemarch from 2015 through 2019 for which the Denver Alumni Chapter produced a video tribute in his honor in 2019. Brother Gerald Hawthorne of the St. Louis Alumni Chapter was selected as the THIRTY-NINTH recipient of the Charles W. Morgan, III Lifetime Achievement Award. He received the award at the 102nd Middle Western Province Council on March 23, 2024. Brother Hawthorne was initiated through the University of Kansas Chapter, the Mu of Kappa Alpha Psi, on December 12, 1997. He is a high-impact marketing strategist who has excelled for more than two decades at building, growing, and amplifying company and individual brands - facilitating their ongoing success through creative marketing & communications services and by cultivating relevance in ways that strengthen brand DNAs while reinventing images and creating brand communities. Passionate for the "art" of marketing, Gerald has consistently delivered an abundance of high-impact marketing campaigns for cross-sector deployment - retail, car manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, media, and an assortment of other competitive industries and well-known companies. As an innovative and talented trailblazer in advertising, Gerald is a groundbreaking pioneer that played a significant role in the election of President Barack Obama. Brother Hawthorne is proud of his involvement in the planning and execution of the 2008 & 2012 "Obama for America" campaigns with budgets exceeding $25M - which garnered a historic number of voters among African-Americans. His innovative methods boosted the African-American voter turnout by 2 million. In addition to his victory with the Obama for America campaign, Gerald's portfolio for marketing strategy consists of a wide array of Fortune 500 companies to startup organizations. He led the resurgence of Safeway's private label O Organics brand, exceeding sales by over $300M. In addition, he managed the CNN Black in America multi-city HBCU college tour that was the catalyst to the Black in American Documentary being the most watched series by African-Americans in the network's history. He has launched, relaunched, or helped to turn around brands such as Gillette, P&G, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, St. Louis Cardinals, American Express, and Goldman Sachs. But when he is not working on corporate brands, he dedicates his time to Kappa. Brother Hawthorne is a lifelong member of the Middle Western Province. After graduating, he quickly transitioned to the Kansas City Alumni Chapter and became an advisor to the Mu Chapter. After moving to St. Louis, he also remained active, joining the St. Louis Alumni Chapter and serving as Advisor to Beta Nu, Keeper of Records, and Board Member. At the Province level of Middle Western Province, Gerald has served as Keeper of Records, Senior Province Vice Polemarch, and as the 20th Middle Western Province Polemarch from 2019 through 2023.
