Augusta Pearl McFarland Morgan ("Baby")

OFFSPRING: Charles

Mrs. Augusta Pearl McFarland Morgan was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on February 28, 1908. She was one of five children born to Charles and Lamonia McFarland.

Following graduation from Douglass High School, she entered Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. She later returned to Fisk for her Master of Arts degree.

She married her college sweetheart, Dr. Charles Wesley Morgan, II. In 1941 they moved to Oklahoma City and established a home. Their only child, Charles Wesley Morgan, III, blessed their marriage and brought happiness to this union.

Mrs. Morgan was a lifelong member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Throughout her affiliation she was a loyal and active member of Mission Circle 12.

She devoted more than 30 years of her life to her chosen profession of teaching. At the same time, as a committed troop leader, she directed her efforts to the task of molding the characters of many young Girl Scouts. Her dedication and timeless service were recognized by several certificates of commendation from both the Oklahoma City and Oklahoma County Girl Scout Councils, as well as the scouts, themselves. Following in her mother's footsteps, she felt a keen sense of responsibility toward the objectives and goals of the YWCA. Putting her interest into action, she served on the Y's Board of Directors, the Metropolitan Membership Committee, the First Blue Ribbon Committee, and was a Life Member of the YWCA.

At the time of her passing, she was the president of the Informal Twelve Social Club. Other organizations in which she actively participated were: Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.; charter member of the Oklahoma City Chapter of the Links, Inc.; Semper Fidelis Study Club; Oklahoma City Urban League and Urban League Guild; NAACP; Sigma Pi Phi Boule; Oklahoma Federation of Colored Women's Clubs and the National Association of Colored Women's Clubs; Past President of the Oklahoma City Chapter of Jack & Jill of America; and the Oklahoma State Historical Society.

She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Dr. Charles Wesley Morgan, II; her mother, Mrs. Lamonia McFarland; her father, Charles McFarland, Sr.; and two brothers, Wardell McFarland and Charles McFarland, Jr.

When she departed this life on Monday, March 12, 1984 (at Doctors General Hospital), she left to cherish her memory one son, Charles Wesley Morgan, III of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Jennie Lou Pollard of Oklahoma City and Lettie Mae Richardson of Lakeland, Florida; one aunt, Clothield Holmes of Evanston, Illinois; four nieces, Lamonia Parker of Oklahoma City, Patricia Pollard of Madison, Wisconsin, Ivy Cox of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and Charlotte Richardson of Cambridge, Massachusetts; and a host of other relatives and friends.
